What’s important to you?

You may wear a lot of hats and have many responsibilities.

Some of those might include owner, employee, boss, volunteer, hobbyist, father, son, uncle, grandfather . . . you get the picture.

If you are like me, your schedule and daily list of to-dos is gigantic.

That can be good at times because no one likes to be bored.

However, a busy life can do two things:

  1. It can make you produce more than usual. The old saying goes that if you want something done, ask a person who is busy.
  2. It can distract you and keep you from what is most important.

What is important?

When former MLB All-Star Albert Pujols played baseball, he would ask players who made it to first base a simple question.

If Albert, nicknamed “The Machine” didn’t know the fortunate baserunner, he’d ask them question.

“What’s the most important thing to you in life,” he’d ask, knowing that the conversation might be brief. That’s why he got to the point.

Some replied with answers like family or friends or baseball.

Albert took that opportunity to tell each one that Christ is the most important thing in the world in his life.

Other things like playing baseball or meeting your friends for a round of golf is okay, but it should never dominate your life and take you away from things that are truly important.

Many athletes use their platform for various reason. But Albert used first base as his way to let everyone he met know that his relationship with Christ was crucial to him.

“I use this as my platform to elevate the name of Jesus Christ,” he told me. “Some have TV, and some have radio and a pulpit – I use the baseball field.”

When Albert played, he also let those know about his love for the Lord if they looked at his spikes. His baseball shoes portrayed Philippians 4:13 on them – the inspirational scripture that saw lets you and me know that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.

Enjoy your life – but make sure you make Jesus Christ your priority.
